I’m am the oldest of three children; I am five years older than my sister and seven years older than my brother. Until 1950, I was the only child. My mother and father were poor share-croppers who moved from rural southeast Alabama in the late 1940’s to earn a better living picking beans in Belle Glade, Florida.
Over the years, vivid pictures of events that occurred when I was between the ages of three and five have occasionally entered my mind. I remember chasing other children around with a pair of blunt-end hair pressers in a room that had a wood floor saying, “Bitecha, bitecha.” I ended up getting a large splinter in my foot. When I would mention this to my mother, it amazed her I could remember events that far back. She said I was about two or three when this happened. They had to take me to a doctor to get the splinter out. I was about the size of a matchstick. I’m a professional musician and the owner/president of Flowers Distributing and Holdings. I’m a graduate of Bethune Cookman College and the University of Central Florida. I also have master’s degree in counselor education. I’m listed in Who’s Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges – 1986. I currently reside in Daytona Beach, Florida.
